Clostridium botulinum is a gram-positive, anaerobic motile bacteria normally found in soil. C. botulinum is a potential threat to both humans and animals through contaminated food because of the potent neurotoxin they produce. C. botulinum bacteria are categorized within 7 strains A-G based on the characteristics of their toxin. A, B, E and F strains are known to cause foodpoisoning in humans. This antibody is specific for botulinum toxoid and does not react with type A and type F toxoids.
