Transilluminators offer uniform and intense ultraviolet light for back-illumination of transparent, fluorescent materials, providing a highly sensitive method to detect double-stranded nucleic acids that have been labeled with dyes. Single-stranded nucleic acids may be detected, but with lower sensitivity.
Each transilluminator is designed to deliver high intensity UV radiation over the full working surface. Units are fitted with a special 5000-hour filter that provides longer filter life and decreases the solarization rate. A plastic cover blocks harmful UV radiation.
Single wavelength models provide 302nm midrange ultraviolet light. Photobleaching is minimized at this wavelength, allowing more time to take pictures without having to restain.
Multiple wavelength models reduce the investment normally associated with the need to acquire more than one light box. Select the longwave (365nm) for viewing a gel for extended periods while avoiding photonicking damage, or easily switch to the midrange UV wavelength (302nm) to increase fluorescence for photo documentation work.
The 115V Models are ETL and ETLc approved. The 230V Models are CE approved.
