?腺相關病毒（AAV）是非致病性ssDNA病毒，需要輔助病毒(通常為腺病毒)參與復制。它編碼兩個末端的反向重復序列(ITR)中的cap和rep基因。ITRs對于病毒的復制和包裝具有決定性作用。cap基因編碼病毒衣殼蛋白，rep基因參與病毒的復制和整合。
重組腺相關病毒載體(rAAV) 源于非致病的野生型腺相關病毒，由于其安全性好、宿主細胞范圍廣(分裂和非分裂細胞)、免疫源性低，在體內表達外源基因時間長等特點，被視為最有前途的基因轉移載體之一，在世界范圍內的基因治療和疫苗研究中得到廣泛應用。AAV已被用于多例臨床試驗（例如FIX，CFTR，Parkinson's，Canavan疾?。]有表現出嚴重的載體相關不良反應。
